Riller and Fount

High Style for the Comfort Class

Riller & Fount, based out of Los Angeles, have mastered minimalist, mix-and-match comfort clothing. Designer Marlena Ruiz seems positively obsessed with fabric and fit when one looks at her line of basic, modern dresses, shirts and two-piece outfits. The stylish basics were given write-ups recently in Nylon, Cosmo, GQ and Foam magazines (among others) … and celebs Halley Berry and Kristin Cavallari were spotted integrating the soft, rich pieces into their daily wear. The whole concept is a no-brainer for today’s woman who feels she shouldn’t have to choose between looking great and feeling comfortable. Why wear yoga pants and a tee (yet again) when you can throw on one of Ruiz’s short body-con, shift, or midi-length dresses and feel Saturday comfy while pulling off runway-ready?

The theme of Riller & Fount’s 2014 Spring line had a decidedly sporty-chic vibe. The neutral dresses were perfectly at-home with tennies and Chuck Taylors. The updated Spring 2015 collection keeps things simple, but adds some fun details like a touch of fringe here or an unexpected gather there. Again, you’ve got the easy-to-integrate rich, understated palette. This time Ruiz is working with dark-gray, an almost cornflower blue-gray and oatmeal/blush. But the best part is you have so many options in terms of neckline, length, pants or dress, fit and flourish. Who doesn’t love options? You’ve got dresses with as many variations and necklines as your favorite tees: halter-neck, one-shoulder, V-neck, crew … seriously something for everybody. The various gathers around the waist and two-piece ensembles are so smart, too. You don’t need to feel like your abs are not up to snuff for wearing relaxed fabric—the cuts are careful to hug curves like curves were always meant to be hugged.

The newest collection has a sort of chic Wimbledon, just-came-from-the-courts, feel to it. Like, Venus and/or Serena would be all over wearing one of the Riller & Fount racer back dresses paired with a rose gold watch and some nude booties … probably a big, floppy hat, too. Dress it up or dress it down. This is wear-all-day, sophisticated garb for the every woman. It’s meant to fit and flatter even if you’re not into sports or live anywhere near LA. Ruiz welcomes women to take it and make it her own.
